Doulas and Partners: aka The Dream Team

A pregnant couple sitting on a couch, looking at each other.

Want to know the most common question I get asked in consults?

“I have a partner, do I need a doula? Would you replace them?”

Some people assume that doulas only benefit birthing people - we're here for all parents. Supporting the whole family unit is my jam.

In other words: Your partner knows you, I know birth and postpartum!

I’m not here to replace your partner. I’m here to add an extra layer of support, understanding, and enrich your birth and postpartum experience for you both.

You and your partner have an intimate connection and deep knowledge of one another. This bond absolutely enhances your labour and postpartum.

However, it’s a big, vulnerable time for them too - that’s where I come in!

As a doula, I have a wealth of knowledge on physiological birth, stages of labour, interventions, calming tools, and more! My doula support and experience complements your relationship, and I’m here to walk alongside you and your family through big life moments.

I help take the load off partner’s shoulders so they can feel present, cared for, and able to support and share in this experience with you.

I’ve had countless partners absolutely gush about how much they appreciated me being part of their team (even if they were on the fence about hiring a doula initially!).

Here’s some things partners have shared about what having a doula meant to them:

  • they felt more prepared for birth and postpartum

  • they learned it was ok to feel big emotions

  • it was easy asking me questions

  • they felt more present and supportive as a partner

  • I helped them grow their confidence as a parent

  • learning mental health flags to watch for with their partner and themselves

  • that it was comfy to be vulnerable too

  • they felt cared for and heard in the early trenches of newborn life

Just as every person is unique, so are the needs and dynamics of every one of my clients.

Working together, I help set my clients up with the tools, confidence, and care that they need, which positively benefits their physical, emotional, and mental health.

Together, we truly make a great team.
